Two September dates put Northwest Montana’s outdoor community within reach: a day on Stone Hill’s climbing routes and an afternoon talking forests in Libby. Here are the details to check before choosing your outing.

Lead story

The Krank returns to Stone Hill on September 19

The Northwest Montana Climbers’ Coalition lists its Koocanusa Krank climbing competition for Saturday, September 19, with participants collecting points on different Stone Hill routes. Online registration is closed. The organizer still lists two in-person registration windows at Tobacco River Ranch.

  • September 18, 5–8 p.m.: in-person registration at Tobacco River Ranch.
  • September 19, 7–8 a.m.: in-person registration at Tobacco River Ranch.
  • September 19, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.: climbing competition.

The brief

Meet the people behind the forests in Libby

The Kootenai Forest Fair offers a different way to spend an afternoon outdoors. The Scotchman Peaks event listing describes a free gathering hosted by the Kootenai Forest Stakeholders Collaborative and partners, with local loggers, forest rangers, wildlife biologists and recreation advocates. Children’s activities are also listed.

  • September 26, 2–5 p.m.: Riverfront Park, 354 City Service Road, Libby.

Practical takeaway

Save the dates, then check the linked organizer before leaving. These event listings were checked September 18; neither states a publication date, and schedules or participation arrangements can change.
